Basic Life Support (BLS)
BLS stands for Basic Life Support and refers to the type of response that healthcare professionals and other personnel provide to an adult, child, or infant experiencing respiratory distress, an obstructed airway, or cardiac arrest.
Our BLS course is designed for healthcare professionals who need to know how to recognize several life-threatening emergencies and promptly perform CPR, timely use of an AED, and other basic cardiovascular life support skills.
What you can learn from this course:
High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
Important early use of an AED
Effective ventilation using a barrier device
Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
This course is offered in two training formats:
Classroom Format: Instructor-led, hands-on class format to reinforce skills proficiency. This course is video-based and teaches the critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrive. The practice-while-watching technique allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills.
Blended Learning Format: Combines online and hands-on training in an optimal format to teach participants first aid, CPR, and AED skills. This approach enables students who are not able to attend traditional classroom training to learn the course at their own pace, while also providing more flexibility in scheduling hands-on training with their instructor. Upon completion of the online portion, students must complete a hands-on skills session with a Heartsaver certified instructor.
For Certification Renewal: A renewal course is designed for those whose certification is still valid but near expiration. It allows you to refresh your memory, renew your skills and stay up-to-date on scientific-based life-saving techniques. It is shorter than a standard initial certification class. A participant will be required to present an existing certification card to be able to register for a renewal class.
Upon completion of all course requirements, participants receive a BLS Provider Course Completion Card which is valid for two years.
