Caregiving Basics III: Effectiveness of Reinforcers in Elder Care

As caregivers, we know that providing the best possible care for our elderly loved ones or patients is of utmost importance. A caregiver’s job isn’t limited to helping clients with their daily activities, medications, and grooming. Being a caregiver includes taking care of their mental state, one of the ways to achieve this is through the use of positive reinforcement strategies that can help encourage good behavior and promote engagement in daily activities. The importance of using reinforcers in elder care lies in their ability to encourage positive behavior and increase engagement, which can lead to better physical and mental health outcomes.

By the end of this training, you should be able to:

  • Define and understand the concept of reinforcers in elder care

  • Know the types of reinforcers and effective reinforcement techniques

  • Know how to implement reinforcers in elder care

  • Address challenges in reinforcement
