TESOROS X HAPPY ANDRADA COLLECTION : A Fusion of Heritage and Modern Filipino Design
On February 20, the TESOROS x HAPPY ANDRADA: A Fusion of Heritage and Modern Filipino Design was launched in celebration of Tesoro’s 80th anniversary. The fashion show showcased a 15-piece collection made from authentic fabrics such as Inaul, cocoon, piña, piña silk, t’nalak, and inabel.
The collection is a blend of traditional weaves and contemporary styles to showcase the rich Filipino culture. The “Happy Dolls” collection of Happy Andrada was also put into the spotlight of the event which were miniature couture masterpieces blending collectible artistry and high fashion. The “Happy Dolls” is in collaboration with Dolljoy and Happy Homes.
Happy Andrada is a renowned fashion designer and is an awardee of the National Commission of Culture and Arts Ani Ng Dangal in Visual Art 2018. She has showcased her Philippine-inspired and locally made collections in international fashion shows. She is known for her unique, complex detailing, masterful use of fabric, and her groundbreaking style.
Tesoros with its tagline of “The Philippines in Store” is also a local Filipino brand founded in 1945 which serves Filipinos and tourists to appreciate the authentic quality of Philippine handicrafts. Tesoros is the pioneer exponent of homegrown fashion and handicrafts in the country. In the celebration of its 80th year, they featured Happy Andrada as their guest designer.
“I got inspired by our culture,” Andrada said when she was asked what her inspiration was for the outfits. She explained that the intricate embroidery of the collection represents Filipino culture. The barongs were modernized for everyday wear so everyone can use them whether they are meeting up with friends, attending cocktail parties, or traveling. “They’re not only for everyday but for everyone as well.”
Through its intricate embroidery, Filipino culture such as harana, national hero Jose Rizal, and tricycles were brought to life. Answering a question from the audience, Andrada said that the fabric was made by weavers and embroiderers from Abra and Ilocos.
Isabel Tesoro, CEO of TESORO, said that this partnership reflects their brand’s dedication to preserving and promoting Filipino craftsmanship. Through these collaborations, the brand ensures that while the traditions evolve, they still stay rooted in their authentic origins. As Isabel Tesoro stated, “We see this as part of a movement where young designers take inspiration from the past and bring it into the future.”
The collection is a celebration of Filipino culture in the form of artistry and embroidery.
