What are Food Banks?

Food banks are essential institutions that collect, store, and distribute food to individuals and families in need. Food banks source food through donations from individuals, corporations, and government programs, and they work in collaboration with local community partners, such as soup kitchens, shelters, and pantries, to distribute the food to those who require assistance According to Feeding America, more than 53 million people turned to food banks, food pantries,  and meal programs in 2021.

There are many food banks across California, in order to be eligible for the commodities the individual must be residing in the geographical area being served and meet established income guidelines. Check out the food program list on the CDSS website: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/food-banks
